Family Literacy & Educational Support

Empowering Families to Support Student Literacy Development

Does your child seem unmotivated to read?

Do things just not seem to be “clicking”, and you don’t know why?

Are you a homeschooling parent concerned about your child’s progress?

I may be able to help.

As a former classroom teacher (grades 4-8 English/Language Arts and History) and director of a university-based literacy tutoring program, I take a holistic approach to understanding children’s academic performance. I use a combination of formal and informal assessments to make recommendations for instruction.

I do not diagnose learning difficulties. Rather, I collect data about your child to understand their motivations, interests, and areas of strengths, so we might leverage these to help them grow as learners.

Parent of 2nd Grader

“My daughter never wanted to read. Katherine helped us identify what would engage her and motivate her to practice and become an enthusiastic reader.”

Parent of 6-year-old

“Katherine assessed our son before we moved and provided recommendations for his new teachers. I was able to advocate for him and ensure the transition was as smooth as possible.”

Focus on Literacy Growth, Engagement, & Motivation

As an expert in literacy development at the K12 level, with extensive experience in assessment and instruction, I am able to utilize a variety of tools to identify not only your child’s needs, but how to best address those needs.

Family Literacy Support

I believe that families can provide unique support and intervention for children struggling to develop literacy skills — they just need to know how. I identify strategies and practices you can integrate into your day-to-day life to help your child grow as a reader and writer.
